Missouri’s outstanding season continued on Saturday as the Tigers bounced back from the loss to Georgia with a dominant win over Tennessee on Saturday.

The Tigers were looking for a signature win, and they got just what they needed. Now, it seems Missouri could be on its way to its first 10-win season since 2014.

It was a complete performance from the Tigers as they dominated on offense and held strong on defense against Tennessee’s high-powered offense.

Player of the Week: Cody Schrader

Missouri’s offense was a one-man show on Saturday as Cody Schrader absolutely torched the Vols.

The running back who came to Missouri as a walk-on was electric on Saturday. He had 205 yards and a touchdown on the ground along with 116 yards in the air.

It was the kind of performance Missouri fans have come to expect from Schrader, and the reason why Eli Drinkwitz believes Schrader should be in the Heisman conversation. While Schrader may not be taking home the Heisman Trophy, he’s the clear favorite for the Burlsworth Trophy, which recognizes the best player that started as a walk-on.

Expect Schrader to carry his momentum into next week’s game against Florida and into the rest of the season.

Newcomer of the Week: Tre’Vez Johnson

Tre’Vez Johnson, a transfer from Florida, was the anchor in Missouri’s secondary.

He had a team-high 8 tackles on the night, preventing some huge plays from Tennessee and helping Missouri’s defense limit Tennessee to just one touchdown on the game.

Biggest concern: Interceptions

Brady Cook has thrown 3 interceptions in his last 2 games. Luckily for Missouri, the interception didn’t comeback to haunt the Tigers like the pair against Georgia did, but that might not be the case against Florida or Arkansas in the coming weeks.

In both of Missouri’s losses this season, Cook has had 2 interceptions. The veteran quarterback has to be more careful in his decision making to ensure he isn’t given opposing teams easy opportunities to score.

Developing trend: Schrader as a receiver option

Cody Schrader has mostly been utilized as a true running back this season, but on Saturday, Missouri might have unlocked a new weapon.

Schrader notched 116 receiving yards on Saturday. Before the game against Tennessee, his best receiving game included just 15 yards in the air. If Drinkwitz can begin utilizing Schrader in the passing game, it could transform Missouri’s already outstanding offense.

The running back has the ability to pick up yards after the catch with his elite speed, and his power means that he can get through defenders on short yards situations if the Tigers look to him on a screen route. Expect Brady Cook to look to his running back in the air more often.

Key stat: 83 rushing yards

Tennessee has found its identity on the ground this season, utilizing running backs Jaylen Wright, Dylan Sampson and Jabari Small to torch defenses on the ground.

The Vols had just 83 rushing yards against Missouri on Saturday as the Tigers defense completely eliminated the run game and forced Joe Milton to have to pass more than he would have liked to.

Jaylen Wright has notched more than 100 rushing yards in 6 games this season, but the elite running back managed just 22 against Missouri on Saturday. That lack of production is no small feat for Missouri’s defense.

First impression about Florida: Gators can be used as a measuring stick

Florida has had a disappointing season, but beating the Gators would be another good win for Missouri.

Florida kept things close against LSU until the final minutes of Saturday night’s game, and the Gators are going to be coming into this game fired up and looking to reach bowl eligibility.

Missouri should have no issues in this game, but it should be considered a signature win for Drinkwitz and his team. If the Tigers get past Florida, it will give them their first 10-win season since 2014 when they won the SEC East.

This game will act as a measuring stick for Missouri. The Tigers have a signature win under their belt after beating Tennessee, but elite teams prove themselves by dominating games against lesser opponents. A dominating win for Missouri will prove just how good this team is and will give them confidence and momentum heading into the final game of the season against Arkansas.
