Missouri defensive lineman Ian Mathews is headed to the transfer portal, he announced on Sunday evening.

Mathews spent 1 season with the Tigers before deciding to depart. He began his career at Auburn before moving to Mizzou last offseason.

He will now be looking for his 3rd program in 3 years. Here’s his announcement:

“As for my teammates, I love y’all and I want to thank y’all for welcoming me with open arms and taking me in as family,” he wrote in-part. “I will never forget the moments we had together. Crazy it ended so soon.

“With that being said, I will be entering my name into the transfer portal with 3 years left of eligibility.”

Mathews was a 3-star recruit in the 2021 recruiting class. He was the No. 669 overall player and the No. 81 defensive lineman in the country for that year, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Mathews did not play in a game for the Tigers last season.

His departure is unlikely to impact Missouri’s defensive line depth in 2023. The Tigers have already added one DL transfer this cycle (Austin Firestone) and could add more this spring if the coaching staff determines it is necessary to do so.
