Defensive tackle Terry Beckner, one of college football’s most impactful true freshmen this season, will be sidelined for the rest of the season with torn ligaments in his knee, Mizzou Football has announced:

The Tigers’ gem in their 2015 signing class, Beckner was a sought after five-star pass rusher who was pushed into immediate action following Harold Brantley’s season-ending fall camp injuries sustained from a car accident.

He injured his knee in last week’s win over BYU.

Mizzou feared the worst and led coach Gary Pinkel to recommend Beckner reaching out to former Tigers star Jeremy Maclin, who has also suffered a devastating knee injury during his freshman season and recovered.

“Depending on where this goes, J-Mac would be a really good phone call for him,” Pinkel said Monday, according to The Kansas City Star.

Beckner’s accumulated 27 tackles and three sacks this season. Eight of those stops have come behind the line of scrimmage.
