After Saturday’s lackluster performance against the Tennessee Volunteers, Missouri has reportedly fired defensive line coach Jethro Franklin and a report from Dave Matter of the Post-Dispatch notes that the Tigers and head coach Eli Drinkwitz will promote from within the Mizzou staff.

Al Davis will reportedly be over the Missouri D-Line which gave up nearly 500 yards rushing to the Vols, 155 of those yards came from running back Tiyon Evans who also had 3 touchdowns.

Davis had been Illinois’ defensive line coach in 2020 before joining Mizzou’s staff this year. He also played defensive line at Arkansas from 2009-12 then coached there 3 seasons as a graduate assistant from 2014-16.

The Tigers have struggled stopping the run this season as they’re last in the SEC in yards per game. The Mizzou defense will get its first chance with the new position coach this week when it faces North Texas on Saturday.
