Missouri defensive coordinator Barry Odom is no longer a candidate for the head coaching job at Memphis, according to The Commerical Appeal.

The Commercial Appeal reported that Odom had been the frontrunner for the job. Memphis reportedly spent parts of Monday and Tuesday in negotiations with him. But the two sides had not reached a deal by Tuesday night, and the school apparently decided to move on to other candidates.

Odom is also believed to be one of the favorites for the head coaching job at Missouri. He is a Missouri alum. He was on Gary Pinkel’s staff from 2003-11, and returned to the Tigers this year to become the defensive coordinator. Many Missouri players have already voiced their support for Odom.

Pinkel is retiring to focus on his battle with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Memphis has been looking for a new head coach since Justin Fuente left to become the coach at Virginia Tech a few days ago.
