Rivalry still alive: Kansas reporter was the only one to leave Mizzou out of the top 25 of the AP Poll
The Missouri Tigers are 6-0 and up to No. 12 in this week’s AP Poll. They’ll host No. 7 Tennessee on Wednesday night in their SEC opener.
The Tigers had a wide range of votes in this week’s poll. Jon Rothstein and Scott Wolf had the Tigers as high as No. 7 in their polls. Meanwhile, only one voter didn’t mention the Tigers in the top 25.
Per CollegePollTracker.com, Kansas City Star reporter Jesse Newell, who covers the Kansas Jayhawks, was the only voter not to list the Tigers in the top 25.
Mizzou has wins over Illinois and Oregon, both of whom are currently ranked. Can they keep the good times going on Wednesday night against Tennessee?
Win that game and we’ll see if Newell pays attention to the Tigers.
He’s not much of a “reporter” if he’s basing rankings off of a rivalry versus record and SOS.
“Rivalry still alive.”
No it isn’t, no matter how much you want to believe, you can squeeze your eyes, clinch your feet and hands and wish upon a star but your fantasy of rivalry isn’t coming back. Keep wishing for the stars little Adam, someday, maybe, you’ll find your special purpose in life, but for now you can always blog on the internets.
I still don’t understand why some Mizzou fans like I assume yourself want to push the idea of the rivalry away. I myself witnesses a Jayhawker in South Carolina this winter while visiting family and promptly told him the good news. Too much history to disregard the rivalry.
It’s the other way around. The University of Missouri has a distinct identity. That identity had a parasite in the Big 8 conference, the parasite needed Missouri even worse in the Big 12 North. The small minority of college sports fans that think it’s accurate to include Kansas while looking at a year in Tiger athletics is a sub-set of mentally ill fans.
There are 48 States of Universities and State Universities that I would rather see Missouri play, and just as many private Universities. I don’t hate the Jayhawks, i’m just dis-interested.
But I also have specific reasons for wanting to see every other University: Missouri’s best men’s sport is Wrestling, I don’t know or care if Kansas has a wrestling program.
2nd best program is football, and there is nothing to gain and more to lose by associating Missouri football with Kansas football.
Missouri’s third best program is basketball and if Kansas University’s basketball program isn’t cheating in the most obvious ways possible, then they look so much like they are, that it doesn’t make any difference. Associating with them is like mud-wrestling.
I’m not a hater, I don’t want to see Arkansas be referred to as Missouri’s rival either. The quicker that rivalry idea gets but back to bed the better. No hate for Arkansas, I hope they have a lot of success. I just don’t want Missouri limited to just one rotating SEC minimum.
I don’t mind seeing K-State, Nebraska, Iowa State, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, or Vanderbilt. Arkansas fans however are already sounding like the Jayhawk fans so Arkansas vs. Kansas is the perfect fit, go for it.
The SEC is a far better conference than the Big 12 but using non division games to decide division races is dumb, no matter who sponsors it. Just to show you I’m calling to question any conference bad ideas.
It may not be alive in your eyes but to many of us we still hate kansas and they’re a lot of ku people that hate Mizzou. kansas-Missouri issues go way back.
Tigurr, you don’t speak for the majority of Missouri fans. You speak for yourself. Stop wishing that you do speak for real Mizzou fans because you don’t.
The very fact this bozo left Mizzou out of the top 25 and the fact you had to post a teenie-bopper twitter like rant over it reeks nothing but “rivalry”.
It is comical that there even a few “Mizzou fans”, who don’t think there is a rivalry between MU and KU. The only downside to us moving to the SEC was the loss of an MU/KU football or basketball game every year. If you don’t think those games would be sold out in 10 minutes, then you must have been born after Mizzou moved the SEC. I am glad to be in the SEC, but this rivalry has been sorely missed.
Well good for him! Not sure purposely torpedoing your own credibility is a great long term career strategy; but no one ever said beakers were smart!
kansASS…..still loath those cheating butt nuggets
KU “Beaker” basketball is a monster. COVID-19 cheated them out of a national championship last year. Love the fact that Bill Self refers to John Calipari as just a “salesman.”
