WATCH: Former Mizzou P Max Scherzer gets standing ovation after his second-career stolen base

Former Mizzou pitcher Max Scherzer has turned into one of the best pitchers of the decade with the Washington Nationals, but that wasn’t what got him his biggest ovation from Washington fans on Saturday.

Yes, he pitched seven shutout innings, striking out 11 in a 6-0 win over the Kansas City Royals, but it was something he did on the base paths that got him the most applause.

As you can see below, Scherzer took advantage of an opposing pitcher not paying attention to him to swipe second base standing up:

That was only his second career stolen base, so you know his teammates are going to have some fun with him the next couple of days following that swipe.

He can go out and throw a stellar game nearly every time he takes the mound. Stealing a base, however, is a much rarer thing for him to do.
