West Virginia starting OL suspended for Week 1 opener against Mizzou
West Virginia fifth-year senior offensive lineman Adam Pankey has been suspended and will not play in the team’s season-opening game at home Sept. 3 against Missouri, according to the Charleston Gazzette-Mail.
Pankey was arrested last week and charged with DUI.
“We hold these guys to high expectations,” Holgorsen said Tuesday at his weekly news conference. “When you don’t meet those, there are going to be consequences. He’s currently suspended from the team. That’s disappointing. He will continue his suspension through Missouri, and we’ll address it at that time.”
Pankey is the team’s starting left guard, having started 25 games over the last two years.
Tony Matteo, another fifth-year senior, will start in Pankey’s spot. Matteo started the one game Pankey missed last season.
