LSU ace Kade Anderson is gaining momentum as the potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.
ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel updated his mock on Wednesday morning with Anderson slotted at No. 1 to the Washington Nationals. If Anderson does go with the top choice, it would be the second time in three years that LSU has produced the No. 1 pick in the draft. Paul Skenes, of course, went No. 1 back in 2023.
Here’s an excerpt of McDaniel’s analysis:
The conversation around who will go No. 1 continues to be wide open and will be until draft day, but Anderson’s strong finish to the season has him looking like the slight favorite over Ethan Holliday as the top pick. Seth Hernandez and Eli Willits are also getting looks here, and I’m sure there are internal conversations about a couple of other options, but Anderson and Holliday are seen as the most likely selections.
Anderson has certainly picked up momentum during the postseason. LSU has won his last 6 starts and he’s allowed 3 or fewer earned runs in 5 of them dating back to mid-May.
Anderson figures to get at least one more start this season, perhaps as early as Thursday against Arkansas — a team he has already faced twice this year. If LSU takes care of business against the Razorbacks on Wednesday night, then Anderson likely wouldn’t pitch again until the College World Series finals this weekend.

The 2025 MLB Draft will begin on July 13.
