No. 6 Mississippi State completes sweep of No. 18 Ole Miss

The sixth-ranked Mississippi State baseball team earned a series sweep of cross-state rival Ole Miss on Sunday, downing the 18th-ranked Rebels 7-1 at Swayze Field in Oxford.

Mississippi State (24-4 overall, 7-2 SEC) extended its winning streak to eight games with the win, which was coupled with Friday’s 5-4 victory and Saturday’s 6-1 triumph. Ole Miss (19-10, 3-6) lost its fourth straight game Sunday.

The Bulldogs belted four home runs against Rebels pitching in the series finale, with Ace Reese smacking a two-run shot in the top of the first inning. Jacob Parker hit a solo shot in the fourth and Andrew Raymond added a two-run blast in the same inning, and Kevin Milewski added a solo homer in the ninth.

Ole Miss’ lone run came in the first inning via a Collin Reuter RBI single. Bulldogs pitchers struck out 14 Rebels batters in the season finale.

Teel went 2-for-5 to lead Mississippi State, which racked up nine hits. Will Furniss and Brayden each went 2-for-4 for Ole Miss.

Duke Stone scattered four hits and struck out eight over 5 2/3 innings for Mississippi State to improve to 5-0.  Ole Miss starter Cade Townsend (2-1) took the loss.
