Big Ten falls short of Elite 8, making NCAA Tournament history

Much was made of the SEC seeing only 1 of its 6 NCAA Tournament teams make the Sweet 16. Things could be worse, though. The Big Ten has now made March Madness history with its failure to reach the Elite 8.
The Big Ten had 9 team make the Big Dance field of 68. Just 2 of those teams made it out of the first week, but neither is playing in this weekend’s Elite 8.

No. 11-seed Michigan was eliminated Thursday in a 63-55 loss to No. 2-seed Villanova. That left No. 3-seed Purdue as the last B1G team. The Boilermakers fell to No. 15-seed Saint Peter’s, this year’s Cinderella, in a 67-64 upset thriller.
Indiana, Rutgers, Ohio State, Michigan State, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin also made the NCAA Tournament.
