DFS Picks: Top Underdog plays for Wednesday’s SEC action (Feb. 26)

Wednesday’s SEC slate includes 4 intriguing matchups that could have postseason implications across the board.

The action is headlined by a matchup featuring No. 1 Auburn, who will host Ole Miss on ESPN 2. On the other side of the spectrum, bubble teams like Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Vanderbilt will all be in action on Wednesday night.

There’s also just a few games left before the 2025 SEC Tournament, so virtually every game from here on out will be meaningful for the final standings.

Best DFS picks for Feb. 26

Below are 4 picks for Wednesday night that can be found on Underdog Fantasy. If you’re unfamiliar with Underdog, here’s Saturday Down South’s extensive Underdog Fantasy review!

Chad Baker-Mazara higher than 0.5 steals

Let’s get this out of the way: no one in the country turns the ball over less than Ole Miss. The Rebels are No. 1 nationally in offensive turnover rate, per KenPom. However, Ole Miss is just 41st in the country in offensive steal rate, which means they are a little bit more susceptible to the types of turnovers we’re targeting with this pick.

You can get a few members of Auburn’s lineup higher than 0.5 steals in this game, but I prefer Baker-Mazara for a couple of reasons. For one thing, he has 18 steals in his last 14 games and has at least 1 steal in 11 of those contests. For another, he often stays on the floor with 2nd-unit lineups for Auburn. He’s played over 400 possessions this season with Auburn bench mainstays Tahaad Pettiford and Chaney Johnson. That’s important because the Ole Miss bench is not nearly as sure-handed with the ball as its starting lineup. Players like Jaemyn Brakefield, Mikeal Brown-Jones and Eduardo Klafke all have elevated turnover rates relative to their roles off the bench.

Otega Oweh higher than 5.5 rebounds

Otega Oweh is averaging exactly 6 rebounds per game over his last 9 contests. He’s hit that number well over half the time as well — in 6 of the 9 games and 3 of his last 4. To make it more personal, Oweh will be playing this game against Oklahoma, where he spent the first 2 seasons of his college career before moving on to UK.

In addition to the extra motivation for Oweh coming back to Norman, this is just a great matchup for his skillset. The Sooners don’t have anyone who can hang with him athletically on the wing. Oklahoma is also a weak rebounding team. OU ranks outside of the top-250 in both offensive and defensive rebounding rate, per KenPom. Oweh mostly gets his boards on the defensive glass, where he’s as important to UK as anyone besides Amari Williams.

Jason Edwards lower than 2.5 made 3-pointers

Jason Edwards is a good 3-point shooter, making them at roughly a 35% clip during SEC play. But his volume of attempts is relatively modest as he’s taking just 5.4 per game this season. That’s not a low number on its own, but it is when considering the projection for this game. Edwards has only made 3 or more shots from distance in 1 of his last 9 games — and he’s shooting a reasonable 34.5% from 3 over that span as well.

The reason this projection is 2.5 instead of 1.5, likely, is that Texas A&M allows its opponents to take a high number of long-range attempts. The Aggies encourage it, even. They rank dead last in the SEC in defensive 3-point attempt rate. But even so, I think Edwards would have to have a remarkably-efficient shooting night from beyond the arc to get to 3 makes against A&M. In 14 SEC games, Edwards has taken more than 6 3-point attempts just 3 times. And amongst those 3 contests, only once did he shoot better than 25% from 3.

DJ Wagner higher than 13.5 points

DJ Wagner is only averaging 11 points per game during conference play this season, but there’s good reason to think that he should have a better-than-average night against Texas on Wednesday. The primary reason is that Adou Thiero has already been ruled out for the Razorbacks with an injury. Thiero is arguably Arkansas’s most important player and leads the team in usage rate since Boogie Fland went down with a season-ending injury. Thiero is averaging more than 15 points per game this season.

That’s a lot of offense that Arkansas will have to replace for this game. I think a lot of the responsibility for this game will fall on Wagner’s shoulders. Johnell Davis is certainly another candidate, but his usage already saw a major spike following Fland’s injury. I’m skeptical that it will rise much further with Thiero out as well. This also seems to be a good stylistic matchup for Wagner. He’s coming off of a 10-free throw attempt game vs. Mizzou in his last game, where he scored 17 points. Texas is one of the only teams in the SEC who foul more often than the Tigers do. The Longhorns rank dead last in the SEC in defensive free throw rate during conference play, per KenPom. I think Wagner will have double-digit field goal attempts and spend more than his fair share of time at the charity stripe.
