One of the greatest basketball players to ever grace the campus of Auburn has found a new home professionally.
Johni Broome, fresh off an SEC Player of the Year campaign with the Tigers, has been assigned to play for the Delaware Blue Coats.
Drafted 35th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2025 NBA Draft, Broome now joins the 2023 G-League Champions up north.
Broome’s college career stands as one of the most productive and extensive that the sport has seen. After starting a total of 61 games over two seasons with Morehead State, Broome opted to transfer to join Bruce Pearl and Auburn prior to the 2022 campaign.
After he routinely posted a double-double with the Eagles, Broome continued to average double-figure points in the SEC before he truly shined as a senior. In leading the Tigers to the 2025 Final Four, the Florida native averaged 18.6 points and 10.8 rebounds per game while being named an All-American in virtually every major poll.
It remains to be seen if Broome can work his way back up to joining the 76ers’ rotation on a full-time basis, as he could gain invaluable knowledge from learning behind Joel Embiid.
The Blue Coats compete out of Wilmington, Delaware and were founded in 2007 as Philadelphia’s G-League affiliate.
