Tennessee took care of business on Saturday afternoon, beating South Carolina 75-65 on senior night in Knoxville.
The win clinches a top-4 seed for the Vols in next week’s SEC Tournament. Crucially, that means Tennessee will advance directly to the quarterfinals and will only need to win 3 games in order win the SEC tourney.
With this victory, Tennessee closes out the season with a 12-6 record in SEC play.
Tennessee will be joined by Auburn, Alabama and Florida with double-byes. Those 4 teams will not play in the SEC Tournament until Friday. The semifinals are set for Saturday with the championship game slated for Sunday afternoon.
The Vols will be either the No. 3 or the No. 4 seed depending on what happens in the Iron Bowl of Basketball on Saturday. If Alabama loses that game, Tennessee would jump to the No. 3 seed. A win for the Crimson Tide would bump Tennessee to the No. 5 seed.
As for this game over South Carolina, Chaz Lanier led the way with 23 points. He was 1 of 4 Vols to score in double-figures.
The SEC Tournament bracket will be finalized on Saturday evening.
