What is the most pressing issue right now in regards to Tennessee’s football program?

Stadium renovations?

Probably not. It probably has more to do with who is the current “caretaker” of the program.

Still, Volunteers athletic director John Currie chose to send out a tweet on Friday about UT’s Board of Trustees’ approval for massive Neyland Stadium renovations.

Normally, that would be fine, and most of the time, expected. However, many fans on Twitter seem to have a problem with the timing. Some have referred to Currie as “tone deaf.”

Those same people want head coach Butch Jones fired. Jones’ team is 3-5 on the season and winless against the SEC.

The approval of the stadium renovations do seem to be coming at an odd time, but they have been in the works for quite a while.

In reality, the necessity of this undertaking and its impact on future generations of Tennessee fans transcends one game or one season for that matter. To quote General Neyland’s game maxim #3: “If at first the game or the breaks go against you, don’t let up. Put on more steam!” In fact, the momentum of our fundraising over the last several months exceeds our expectations!

Interesting. Here is the tweet Currie sent out:
