It looks like Miami will be without two veteran players who were expected to return for 2021.
According to Susan Miller Degnan and David Wilson of the Miami Herald, Hurricanes wide receiver Jeremiah Payton and defensive end Cameron Williams were not present at Friday’s practice and are no longer on the UM roster. The report adds that Williams is believed to be entering the NCAA transfer portal.
Payton was Miami’s top signee in the class of 2019. From Neptune Beach, Florida, Payton was rated the No. 9 Sunshine State recruit, No. 10 wide receiver and No. 54 prospect overall nationally on the 247Sports Composite.
Williams, a one-time Florida pledge, was also in the class of 2019. He was rated 3-stars on the 247Sports Composite (4-stars on Rivals).
Payton played in just four games last season, spending time in COVID protocol. He had 5 catches for 35 yards. Williams played in nine games last season, including a start in the bowl game against Oklahoma State. He had eight tackles in 2020.
Miami opens the 2021 season in Atlanta against Alabama.
