2024 Rookie of the Year: SEC sweep? Paul Skenes, Wyatt Langford dominate betting

As the MLB nears its break for the upcoming All-Star Game, the league’s top newcomers are starting to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. The SEC could have a pair of alumni sweep the Rookie of the Year awards.
Over the past few weeks, the NL Rookie of the Year betting market has been all about Paul Skenes.
At BetMGM, Skenes opened with odds of +1300, meaning a $100 wager would win $1300 for a $1400 payout if the former LSU flamethrower picked up the award. Skenes did not make the big league roster out of spring training, and his BetMGM odds were +3000 on Opening Day. By April 11, however, he was at +2200 with 7.9% of tickets (bets) for 5% of the handle (money bet).
On Tuesday, BetMGM shared updated MLB betting splits with Saturday Down South. As he has been in recent weeks, Skenes is the betting favorite and book’s biggest liability. BetMGM now has Skenes priced at -350 for NL Rookie of the Year, meaning it would take a $350 wager to win $100.

On the AL side, Wyatt Langford’s line has also seen movement, but more like a rollercoaster track. The former Florida slugger’s odds opened at +800. As an Opening Day member of the Texas Rangers roster, he was at +225 for AL Rookie of the Year.
Langford did not get off to the hottest of starts. In mid-June, BetMGM had Langford priced at +1800. Recently, though, Langford has started to put it together. Last week, BetMGM priced Langford +350 to win AL Rookie of the Year, and Luis Gil (+130) was the betting favorite.
On Tuesday, BetMGM revealed that Langford is the new favorite with +135 odds. Gil, meanwhile, is now +200. For those looking to get on the Langford bandwagon, a $100 wager at +135 would generate a $235 if the former Gator wins AL ROTY.
