Nick Saban held his regularly scheduled radio show Thursday night from Baumhower’s Victory Grille.

Saban always gets into some interesting topics on his show, and Thursday night was no different.

Below are the three most interesting things Saban said:

On the one recruit who he knew would be a star

Alabama’s head coach was asked if he could name the one recruit he knew would be a great player. His answer might not surprise you — former linebacker Dont’a Hightower.

“The first guy that comes to mind is Dont’a Hightower,” Saban said.

He went on to tell the audience a story about how he watched Hightower in high school practice before other colleges started recruiting him, and Saban could tell that Hightower would be a great player the first time he laid eyes on him.

Hightower’s college and NFL career certainly proves Saban was right.

The plan for offensive lineman Deonte Brown

Offensive lineman Deonte Brown is now eligible to play for Alabama after serving a six-game NCAA suspension; however, no one really knew how much Brown would play to start.

Saban laid out the plan Thursday night.

“(Deonte Brown) Very talented guy because he’s a very good athlete. He’s got great balance and body control and he’s probably the most powerful, explosive guy that we have on the whole offensive line. But he’s a guard body type, and when he played for us last year, he played very well at times. There’s some inconsistency because he was sort of an inexperienced player, and I think he’s a lot more mature right now. He’s always a guy that we’ve struggled with to keep him in shape, to get him in shape, to get his weight to where it needs to be so he can sustain his performance.

“We will play him in this game probably at both guards at some point just to get him back to playing and be able to get some kind of evaluation of him.”

On game against Ole Miss

Saban is always using the media to speak to his team. Thursday night he used that opportunity again.

Saban called Ole Miss the most improved team (of any team) from last year to this year.

“I’m telling you folks, Ole Miss is the most improved team that I have seen from last year to this year in terms of how they’re coached, how their players play, the discipline that they play with, the understanding of the system. … It’s really impressed me.”

Alabama and Ole Miss kickoff Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET from Bryant-Denny Stadium.
