Who will be college football’s best player in 2016? The Walter Camp Foundation has 40 names in mind, and seven hail from the SEC.
The following conference players made the watchlist for the 2016 Walter Camp Player of the Year Award:
- Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs
- Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly
- Georgia RB Nick Chubb
- LSU RB Leonard Fournette
- Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk
- Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett
- Alabama DB Eddie Jackson
The list, which can be viewed here, will be trimmed to 10 semi-finalists sometime in November. The winner will be announced live on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Dec. 8 and receive the award itself at a banquet on Jan. 14, 2017.
“We are proud to continue the great work of Walter Camp and recognize the best college football players in the nation,” Walter Camp Foundation president Robert Kauffman said in a release. “This watch list is a great start to what is shaping up to be another exciting year of college football.”
Former Alabama RB Derrick Henry won the award in 2015.
