The first day of the 2022 college football season isn’t even fully in the books yet and it’s already been a wild ride, with the Nebraska Cornhuskers falling 31-28 to the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday in a game they never should have lost in Ireland.

The Cornhuskers blew a double-digit lead in a game they were favored to win, thanks to a questionable onside kick decision that former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray had some thoughts about. And it’s easy to imagine that several sports bettors had thoughts about what went down in the overseas sporting event this weekend.

“Nebraska, they’re going to win the game. They’re going to cover the spread,” Murray said. “So what do we do? We decide to kick an onside kick. Why not? Let’s just find a way to lose the football game, coach (Scott) Frost. The beloved son comes back and disappoints once again.”

File that under “things that no one saw coming today.” This early in the season, we already have a reminder that it’s any given Saturday in college football and that it’s never quite predictable.

Nebraska has its next chance to rebound when the Cornhuskers face North Dakota at 2:30 p.m. CT on Sept. 3.
