Ainias Smith was absent from Thursday’s SEC Media Days after a recent arrest for multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated (DWI).

A Texas A&M spokesman told reporters Wednesday that Smith had been suspended while Jimbo Fisher looked into the situation. Thursday, during his televised press conference, Fisher was asked about Smith’s status.

“With Ainias, we’re gathering all the evidence and things that go on, and then we’ll make a comment,” Fisher said. “We have no comment at this time.”

Smith was arrested Wednesday by university police on charges of DWI, unlawfully carrying a weapon and possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana, according to Brazos County Jail records.

Smith has played both running back and receiver during his Texas A&M career. Heading into the 2021 season, Fisher labeled Smith a slot receiver. Smith played in all 12 games, leading the Aggies with 47 catches and 6 touchdowns. Smith was also the SEC’s leading punt returner, posting an 11.3 yards per return average, including a 95-yard TD return against South Carolina.

Smith’s career numbers include 112 receptions for 1,321 yards and 15 TDs. As a ball-carrier, Smith has rushed 64 times for 373 yards and 4 scores.
