AJ Lawson, former South Carolina guard, reportedly signs 2-way deal with NBA team

A.J. Lawson, a shooting guard at South Carolina from 2018-2021, has reportedly come to an agreement on a 2-way NBA contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, per Shams Charania.

Lawson signed with the Atlanta Hawks as an undrafted free agent in Sept. 2021. After being waived by the Hawks, he signed with their G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks.

He played for the Dallas Mavericks’ NBA Summer League team and was later signed by the Timberwolves, and after being waived, re-signed with College Park in October. Thus far in 2022-23, he has averaged 22.3 points per game in 4 games, averaging 36.9 minutes a game.

At South Carolina, he averaged 14.2 points per game in 3 seasons. As a junior in 2020-21, he was good for 16.6 ppg en route to All-SEC 2nd team honors. He was a member of the SEC’s All-Freshman team after averaging 13.4 points per game in 2018-19.
