Alabama-Clemson: Live Score, Updates and Sugar Bowl Commentary

The second of two semifinal games kicks off at 8:45 p.m. eastern on Monday, Jan. 1 when Alabama and Clemson square off in the Sugar Bowl. We’ll have live game updates and scores all throughout the game here at Saturday Down South.

In the national championship game to conclude the 2015 college football season, Alabama defeated Clemson by a score of 45-40. This incredible game culminated with Alabama executing a ferocious 4th quarter comeback in which it scored 24 points in the 4th quarter. Alabama’s Jake Coker went head-to-head with legendary Clemson talent Deshaun Watson. Both quarterbacks threw for over 300 yards. Alabama’s Derrick Henry scored three touchdowns. The difference, however, was Alabama tight end OJ Howard who caught 5 balls for over 200 yards and two touchdowns.
The next year, Alabama and Clemson met yet again to battle for the national championship to conclude the 2016 season. This time, Clemson would get its revenge, and Clemson would dethrone Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. Deshaun Watson was masterful with 420 yards passing and three touchdowns. Similar to Alabama in the yaer before, Clemson was unstoppable in the 4th quarter, scoring 21 points in the final fifteen minutes.

8:15 p.m. Thirty minutes before kickoff, Georgia is now leading Oklahoma 38-31. Can you imagine an all-SEC national championship game during the playoff era? It’s a possibility.
Kickoff for the Sugar Bowl is now scheduled for 9:00 p.m. eastern – fifteen minutes later than originally scheduled.
8:45 p.m. Oklahoma-Georgia is now tied 45-45 with less than a minute remaining.
9:24 p.m. Alabama is on the board with a field goal and now leads Clemson 3-0.
9:36 p.m. A strike to Calvin Ridley on a Jalen Hurts scramble has put the Alabama Crimson Tide up 10-0. Alabama feels very much in control of this game early.
9:55 p.m. Clemson is officially on the board with a field goal.
10:22 p.m. Just before the first half concluded, Alabama missed a field goal. Alabama still leads 10-3 at the half.
10:50 p.m. After an Alabama turnover, Clemson took advantage of the opportunity and collected another three points with a field goal. Alabama still leads 10-6.
11:22 p.m. After several defensive plays and turnovers, Alabama now leads 24-6. Alabama remains firmly in control of the ballgame.
12:30 a.m. Alabama has won the game 24-6.
