Alabama dominance: Another year, same story from the Crimson Tide

Alabama cruised through the 2020 season, going undefeated and winning the national title.

This offseason, the Crimson Tide lost OC Steve Sarkisian to Texas. They also lost Heisman-winning WR DeVonta Smith, Heisman finalist QB Mac Jones, star RB Najee Harris, elite WR Jaylen Waddle and talented OL Landon Dickerson and Alex Leatherwood to the NFL.

No matter.

The Tide entered the 2021 season ranked No. 1 in the country. Their first game? No. 14 Miami at a neutral site in Atlanta.

It was a mismatch from the opening kickoff. New QB Bryce Young and his new weapons made it look easy, cruising to a 44-13 victory.

Young finished the game 27-for-38 for 344 yards and 4 touchdowns. That’s the most touchdown passes an Alabama quarterback has ever had in his first start.

Jameson Williams, the transfer from Ohio State, had 1 of those touchdowns on this 94-yard explosive play:

The defense had a solid game, though we’re sure Nick Saban will have some nits to pick with allowing 13 points to the Hurricanes.

Still … it’s another year, another dominant opener for the Tide. Can they be stopped in 2021?

The next team to get a crack at Alabama is Mercer. Mercer just won 69-0 on Friday night, but the Bears likely won’t be too much of a challenge for the Tide. We’ll see if Young and the Tide continue to roll on Sept. 18 at Florida.
