Alabama lands midnight commitment from Mississippi in 4-star DE Byron Young

Fireworks came a night early for Nick Saban and Alabama.

At midnight C.T. early Wednesday morning, 4-star DE Byron Young (Laurel, MS) committed to Alabama over offers from Georgia, Mississippi State and Ole Miss, among others. The 6-foot-4, 279-pound prospect is ranked as the nation’s No. 9 SDE and the state of Mississippi’s No. 9 overall prospect in a loaded 2019 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

As a junior, Young recorded 50 tackles, including 22 for a loss with 14 sacks.

Following Young’s commitment, Alabama now has 18 verbal pledges in the class of 2019, including having the No. 1 ranked class in the country. The Tide now have six defensive linemen committed, and it’s clear Saban and his staff are reloading at the position.

Young shared his commitment via Twitter, writing, “With that being said I’d like to announce my commitment to the University of Alabama.”
