The SEC media recently named Alabama the favorite to win the SEC West and the conference championship game in Atlanta. Bettors in Las Vegas are taking it a step further, predicting the Crimson Tide will win two more games and claim the 2017 national championship.

On Sunday, ESPN gambling writer David Purdum tweeted out the five teams with the most money bet on them to win the national championship at the Westgate SuperBook. Alabama led the way, and some familiar foes followed:

  1. Alabama
  2. Ohio State
  3. Florida State
  4. USC
  5. Penn State

If the bettors’ top four comes through as the selection committee’s final four, this year’s College Football Playoffs will be Alabama and three teams it has faced in the last three years. Noticeably absent, however, is UA’s national championship of the last two seasons, Clemson.

The bettors aren’t alone in seeing Week 1 opponents Alabama and Florida State as potential playoff teams. Two weeks ago, ESPN’s Rece Davis revealed his prediction that the Crimson Tide and Seminoles will meet a second time in the national championship game.
