It was bound to happen.

Alabama radio voice Chris Stewart only made it to the second week of Hey Coach shows before accidentally referring to Kalen DeBoer as “Coach Saban.”

The Crimson Tide Sports Network posted the clip online. Producer Tom Stipe instantly picks up on the error.

“Did I do it already?” Stewart asks, chuckling.

“Hey, he’s everywhere,” DeBoer offered, laughing at the situation. “I’m sure he’s in here. I was looking around trying to find him.”

Stewart joked that the first slip-up of the season came at 6:46 p.m. CT on Sept. 4 for any office pools.

Stewart apologized, which DeBoer said wasn’t necessary. Stewart quipped that the mistake could get him demoted to calling JUCO football. DeBoer added that if he’s called Coach Saban, it’s a sign that things are going well with the Crimson Tide.

Hats off to both for handling the situation in the best possible way.  DeBoer took advantage of a chance to show off his sense of humor and was gracious to a professional who was deeply embarrassed by his mistake.

And it’s true, as DeBoer said, that Saban has maintained a presence in Tuscaloosa since retiring. He made it to Bryant-Denny Stadium for the season-opener. Saban will be back for the Week 2 game as Alabama officially dedicates Saban Field.
