Absorbing a loss is always a little more difficult in Tuscaloosa, and the Alabama Crimson Tide have certainly felt the hangover effects of last Saturday’s upset against Ole Miss. Reporters have speculated for years now that Nick Saban’s dynasty is inching closer to its end, and Week 3’s notable SEC loss has ever-so-slightly raised the level of concern in Alabama nation.
Falling 10 spots to No. 12 on the AP Top 25 Poll has also greatly impacted secondary market prices for this Saturday’s affair with Louisiana-Monroe in Tuscaloosa. In fact, ticket prices are so low that it now serves as the second cheapest Alabama game at Bryant-Denny Stadium. TiqIQ has tracked since the turn of the decade. With the Crimson Tide expected to find their footing and perhaps right the ship, Saturday’s game may serve as the best price point for fans hoping to attend.
The average price for Alabama vs Louisiana-Monroe tickets on TiqIQ is currently $53.50, marking a 65% drop below the season average of $153.27 across all five remaining home games. Only a game against Florida Atlantic last season was cheaper at an average price of $45. The get-in price for Saturday’s game is now $28.
Fans may remember (or perhaps willingly try to forget) Alabama’s first and last meeting with Louisiana-Monroe in 2007. Played at Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Warhawks held on to take an improbable 21-14 victory in Saban’s first year as head coach in Tuscaloosa, putting the small school on the map and upsetting an Alabama program that were considered 24.5-point favorites.
Much has changed in the eight years since – Saban has gone on to construct one of the most dominant coaching careers of all-time while ULM has played through several forgettable seasons in the Sun Belt Conference. The extra attention to this weekend’s game is being used in a positive light on Louisiana-Monroe’s side, however.
“I do think that during the week, especially with social media, that can create some motivation and a little extra energy. In relation to how it will go on Saturday it won’t have any bearing at all,” head coach Todd Berry said in a press conference Tuesday.
Whether Alabama showcases its brute force against the Warhawks or continues to falter this early in the season, fans will be watching Saban’s team for historically low ticket prices on Saturday. And while the Crimson Tide aim to have a bounce-back game, those in attendance will be taking advantage of the rare plunge well below the season average on the secondary market.
