Albert Haynesworth did not hold back when discussing Butch Jones this week.
The former Volunteers DL and NFL star has been critical of Tennessee’s coach on Twitter throughout the season. Haynesworth is certainly not alone in criticizing Jones as the Vols have struggled all season long.
Tennessee is still looking for its first SEC win of the season, and all signs seem to point to the fact that it is only a matter of time until Jones is out in Knoxville.
Haynesworth was especially blunt when discussing Jones and his treatment of former Tennessee players on Wednesday. He said he does not believe a thing Jones says anymore and is sick of him.
Haynesworth made his comments during a radio appearance with FOX Sports Knoxville:
“I don’t believe anything he says,” said Haynesworth. “First of all, I don’t really care. Like Antone — if you’re a big dog, you can got out there to practice. Antone told me he had to keep out John Bruhin and Tony Robinson. He had to keep those guys out of practice. They’re not wanted. I mean like, ‘Why are they not wanted?’ Is it just because we criticize your job? Well, do your damn job. Clearly, you’re not a good coach. What would it have been smart of him to do since he’s not a good coach? Surround himself with good coaches. He’s only done that once. That’s Gillespie. That’s it … But it’s like, ‘You don’t want us around?’ We built that. We’re the ones that — while you’re sitting up there in that luxury office — it’s off of stuff that we did. Not a damn thing that you did. You ain’t laid no bricks. That ‘brick by brick’? That’s total B.S. I’m kind of sick of it.”
Earlier this week, VFL coordinator Antone Davis resigned from his post. Davis made some damning accusations about Jones.
Haynesworth went on to say that he does want Jon Gruden to be Tennessee’s next head coach. For what it’s worth, Gruden is the betting favorite to take over in Knoxville.
