Alijah Martin was not part of No. 3 Florida’s win over No. 1 Auburn, but the standout guard is expected to be back in action for the Gators against No. 22 Mississippi State on Tuesday.

Martin missed Saturday at Auburn due to a hip pointer. On Monday, Florida head coach Todd Golden told reporters that Martin looks better and should be back for Tuesday’s SEC clash on the road. Golden stopped short of a guarantee, noting it can be a tricky injury.

“I think he’ll play,” Golden said, per the Associated Press. “I anticipate he’ll play, but it’s a funny little injury and a little pull here and there can bother him. But he looked really good (Sunday).”

Martin is 3rd on the team in minutes, averaging 30.4 per game. He is second on the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game, behind Walter Clayton Jr. (17.5 ppg).

In Martin’s absence, the Gators turned to Denzel Aberdeen. Aberdeen gave the Gators 28 minutes, and reached double figures with 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the field, including 2 3-pointers. It marked back-to-back starts for Aberdeen, who stepped in for an injured Clayton against Vanderbilt.

Florida and Mississippi State is set for a 7 p.m. ET tipoff on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are 17-6 on the year and 8-3 at home. Away from home, the Gators are 4-2 in true road games and 5-0 at neutral sites in the 2024-25 campaign.
