Lee Corso had a day to remember on Saturday.
It was the final show of his illustrious College GameDay career, which has spanned most of the past 4 decades. He was honored throughout ESPN’s broadcast from Columbus, Ohio, and then correctly picked Ohio State to beat Texas in their colossal Week 1 showdown.
Corso was also the only College GameDay panelist to correctly predict an upset win over Alabama for Florida State — his alma mater. But as it turns out, Corso’s magic didn’t stop there. All 6 of the teams Corso was associated with as a player or coach won on Saturday.
That list includes Florida State, Maryland, Navy, Louisville, Indiana and Northern Illinois.
Corso played quarterback and cornerback for the Noles from 1953-57. By 1958, he had begun his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Noles. He then moved on to Maryland where he was a quarterbacks coach for 7 seasons. After that, Corso joined Navy as its defensive backs coach for 3 years.
Corso earned his first head coaching opportunity 1969 at Louisville. He led the Cardinals program for 4 years before moving on to the Indiana job, where he stayed for about a decade. Corso’s final college head coaching position was at Northern Illinois in 1984.
Corso then joined ESPN in 1987. The rest, as they say, is history.
