Athlon Sports’ annual “SEC Coaches Talk Anonymously About Conference Foes for 2019” delivered once again.
Much has been made about Alabama’s blowout loss to Clemson in the national title game. It’s been broken down and rehashed again and again. So, something tell us that the Tide are going to come out angry and open up a can against Duke (and many other teams in 2019).
Other SEC coaches feel the same way, too.
“This is another national championship team, and they have the benefit of building off of last year’s loss. They’ll come out angry and focused,” an anonymous coach told Athlon Sports.
Another coach made a similar comment that losing to Clemson may be the best thing for the 2019 team. It’s almost like most of these players woke up on third base never knowing how they got to first and second.
“Maybe the best thing for this year’s team was losing that national title game the way they did. They were outplayed, outcoached and got whipped on the lines. Now they’re going to reload with the best roster in the league, but Nick Saban has all the motivation he needs.”
We all know how Nick Saban is the master of motivation.
Alabama’s biggest weakness? It may be the line of scrimmage, as echoed by one coach.
“If there’s a questionable unit, and there really isn’t, it might be offensive line. Jonah Williams is a first-round talent. They’ll need a new center and it’s a new offensive system.”
Alabama is the prohibitive favorite to win the SEC Championship again and return to the College Football Playoff. The Tide open the season August 31 against the Duke Blue Devils.
