Kentucky guard Antonio Reeves was selected midway through the 2nd round of the 2024 NBA Draft on Thursday afternoon.

Reeves will reportedly be heading to New Orleans after the Pelicans acquired his rights in a trade with the Orlando Magic. Reeves was selected with the 47th overall pick in the draft.

Reeves will likely be on a 2-way contract with New Orleans, which means he will split his time between the Pelicans and their G-League affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron.

Reeves was an older, but very productive prospect in this class. He had a career-best season at Kentucky in 2023-24, as he averaged 20.2 points per game as a 5th-year player. He’s an excellent 3-point shooter — he hit 44.7% of his attempts from long range this past season.

He’ll now fight for playing time on a Pelicans roster that was good enough to reach the postseason last year.

Justin Edwards surprisingly went unselected on Thursday. He was ESPN’s No. 1 player to not be picked in this year’s draft. However, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that Edwards has agreed to a 2-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Edwards was a former 5-star prospect who spent 1 season at Kentucky before deciding to turn pro. He was the No. 3 overall player in the country for the class of 2023, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

His lone season Lexington was filled with ups and downs. He started 30 games for the Wildcats and averaged 8.8 points per night. He also contributed 3.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.9 steals per game.

Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham were both picked in the top-10 of this year’s draft and are now toward the top of the leaderboard in Rookie of the Year betting odds.
