If we had to bet, we’d say Arch Manning can’t throw a football a quarter-mile. Despite this, people are dead serious about the Texas quarterback resembling a famous movie character after his rough showing on Saturday.

Manning completed 17 of his 30 passes (56.7%) for 170 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception in the Longhorns’ loss to No. 3 Ohio State. However, the story of the game was the throws he didn’t connect on. Thirty-seven percent (11/30) of Manning’s passes against the Buckeyes were off-target. With a spray chart like that, it’s easy to see why social media users likened him to Uncle Rico of Napoleon Dynamite.

Manning’s throwing motion certainly looked unconventional. It likely played a role in him missing multiple throws in Texas’ final possession. He both airmailed and skipped passes that could have gotten the Longhorns a new set of downs before they ultimately failed to convert on fourth-and-5 from midfield.

Fortunately for Manning and Texas fans, the Longhorns get the chance to work out their kinks over the next 3 weeks. They face the San Jose State Spartans, UTEP Miners, and Sam Houston State Bobcats as tune-ups before a road matchup with Florida on Oct. 4.
