Arkansas’ recruiting hot streak continues with a commitment from the transfer portal.

After a standout 2022 season at North Texas, Var’Keyes Gumms is headed to Arkansas. He announced his commitment to the Razorbacks on Sunday via his Twitter account. Gumms pledged to Sam Pittman’s program after a visit to Fayetteville.

Gumms is entering Year 3 of his college football career. He played in 3 games for North Texas in 2021, taking a redshirt for the season.

Last season was a breakout year for Gumms. In 14 games, including 6 starts, Gumms set UNT single-season records for a tight end in receptions (34) and yards (458), also catching 5 touchdowns. His standout season led to second-team Freshman All-American recognition from The Athletic and College Football News. He was named first-team All-Conference USA by the conference coaches.

BYU, Colorado, Cal, FAU, Oregon, West Virginia and Utah also extended scholarship offers to Gumms upon his entry to the transfer portal last week.
