First-year Arkansas wide receiver Ismael Cisse suffered an injury in the weight room this week that will require surgery, according to a report from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

The timetable for Cisse’s recovery is not currently known. According to the Democrat-Gazette, Cisse broke a bone in his wrist. He’ll likely be unavailable when the team begins training camp on Aug. 1.

A redshirt sophomore from Denver, Cisse began his career at Stanford. After 2 seasons and 14 appearances for the Cardinal, he entered the transfer portal and joined the Razorbacks during the winter transfer window. Following the spring period, Cisse looked like he was in line to start out wide for the Razorbacks this fall.

He made 5 starts for Stanford last season, bringing in 26 receptions for 241 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Cisse was 1 of 10 additions to the receiver room this offseason for Arkansas. Offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino and head coach Sam Pittman remade the room following departures from 5 receivers from last year’s team. Seven transfers joined the room and, following the spring, it looked like the 3 starting spots in Petrino’s offense would all be held by newcomers.

Omega Blake (Charlotte) and Raylen Sharpe (Fresno State) both saw significant first-team action during the spring. UAB transfer Kam Shanks is also expected to be heavily involved. Shanks and Sharpe are both under 5-10, however, and Arkansas will need more size on the outside.

The 6-foot-1 CJ Brown (5 catches for 62 yards last year) is the Razorbacks’ leading returning receiver. He’ll be contending with Jalen Brown (Florida State), Andy Jean (Pittsburgh), Courtney Crutchfield (Mizzou), Monte Harrison, Krosse Johnson, and Shamar Easter for first-team action when fall camp begins.

Arkansas opens the 2025 season at home on Aug. 30 against Alabama A&M. The Razorbacks begin league play on Sept. 13 with a game against Ole Miss in Oxford.
