Auburn’s secondary got a boost to its depth for 2021 on Sunday when veteran defensive back Traivon Leonard shared his plans to return to the team after opting out of the 2020 season last summer.
According to AL.com’s Tom Green, Leonard reportedly posted the following on his Instagram account. The account is currently set to private with posts only viewable to Leonard’s followers.
“After some thought and talking to my family and friends, I think it would be best if I rejoined the team in the summer,” Leonard posted on Instagram. “Not playing football has been the hardest thing for me and everything in my life. Leaving my brothers and buying into distractions made me lose myself. I love Auburn and starting new with the new coaching staff is the best thing that I can do for my future and dreams of being in the NFL. I’m going to work really hard and be there with my brothers for one last ride. I can’t wait to get back and put in this work!! WAR DAMN EAGLE!”
Leonard signed with Auburn as part of the 2017 recruiting class. He played in four games during the ’17 campaign, recording 5 total tackles and a pass breakup. He did not see the field in 2018 or ’19.
