Auburn’s secondary will be down a key player in the first half of next week’s Iron Bowl.

Tigers safety Jamien Sherwood was ejected in the third quarter of Saturday’s AU-Samford game for targeting, which was upheld for Sherwood’s hit on Samford QB Liam Welch after the ball had been released.

“Any time you’ve got a guy ejected, it’s tough, especially with the game we’ve got next week,” Malzahn told reporters in his postgame press conference.

While in the game, Sherwood recorded three solo tackles, including one for a loss, and a quarterback hurry. For the season he has 40 tackles, including four for a loss, and five pass breakups.

Next week’s regular-season finale is set for a 2:30 p.m. local CT kickoff from Jordan-Hare Stadium and will be shown on CBS as the 3:30 p.m. ET showcase game.
