Auburn took a 3-4 record into its Week 9 game against Arkansas in Fayetteville. Unless things change in the second half, the Tigers could be at risk of dropping to 0-5 in SEC play.
At halftime, the 2-5 Razorbacks — led by interim head coach Bobby Petrino — have a 21-10 lead over Hugh Freeze and the Tigers.
Auburn actually opened up a 10-0 lead just under 3 minutes into the second quarter. Since then, it’s been all Arkansas. Taylen Green hooked up with Raylen Sharp for a 58-yard score to put the Hogs on the board. They used a short field to go up 14-10 on their next possession.
The Tigers threatened to score on the ensuing drive, getting all the way down to the Arkansas 15. But Jackson Arnold was intercepted by former Oklahoma teammate Kani Walker, who took it 89 yards the other way as Arkansas opened a 21-10 lead just before the halftime break.
The heat was already on Freeze coming into this one. The Tigers have shown little improvement under the third-year head coach, who is on the verge of dropping to 14-19 overall and 5-15 in the SEC since his arrival. Auburn is also in danger of dropping its sixth straight conference game dating back to 2024.
What’s more, Arnold, who was plucked from the transfer portal in hopes that he’d help resuscitate a struggling Auburn program, was benched after the pick-6.
