The SEC will showcase two pivotal battles during Week 3 of the 2015 college football season. With four undefeated records on the line, Auburn travels to Tiger Stadium to face LSU in the Tigers’ now-official home opener before Alabama hosts Ole Miss on Saturday night. All four teams own a spot in the AP Top 25 entering the third week of play, and both games will be the most expensive SEC games on the secondary market this week.
According to TiqIQ, the average secondary market price for LSU vs Auburn tickets is $158.50. That serves as the fourth most expensive game at Tiger Stadium this season and behind top-priced games against Arkansas ($208.39 avg.), Florida ($189.97 avg.) and Texas A&M ($208.39 avg.). Looking to just get in on Saturday? The cheapest available ticket is listed for $64. That will be just slightly more expensive than Baton Rouge hotels through Hipmunk. com, which start from $59 this weekend for those looking to travel to the game.
Prices will be even higher out in Tuscaloosa Saturday night. The Crimson Tide will host Ole Miss in what will be the 63rd meeting all-time between the schools. Alabama vs Auburn tickets currently average $220.44, making it Alabama’s third most expensive game at Bryant-Denny Stadium this season. Only games against Tennessee on October 24 ($223.49 avg.) and LSU on November 7 ($309.42 avg.) own bigger ticket prices. The get-in price for Saturday’s game in Alabama is $106.
No. 13 LSU inched past Mississippi State in their season opener last week after severe thunderstorms forced the home opener against McNeese State to be postponed during Week 1. They’ll open up Tiger Stadium with a similarly formidable challenge in No. 18 Auburn on Saturday, though Auburn has already had their fair share of tests with tight wins over Louisville and Mississippi State.
Saturday’s meeting will mark the 50th battle between LSU and Auburn. The rivalry dates back to 1901 and has been played annually since 1992’s institution of SEC divisional play. LSU has the competitive edge in the series at 27-21-2, though Auburn won last year’s affair at Jordan-Hare Stadium by a decisive 41-7 final.
The No. 15 Rebels have been an offensive juggernaut over their first two games this season. They pinned 76 points on UTM during Week 1 and followed that performance up with a 73-21 beatdown on Fresno State last weekend. That offensive outpouring will likely be kept in check in Tuscaloosa Saturday, however, as Ole Miss goes up against the No. 2 team in the country. The Crimson Tide have shown a dominant offense as well, cruising to wins over Wisconsin and Middle Tennessee and posting 72 points along the way.
In a rivalry that has flourished since 1894, Alabama owns a dominant 47-10-2 record over Ole Miss all-time. Since the 1992 season when both teams entered the SEC western division, Alabama has had Ole Miss’ number, winning 19 of those 23 games. The early-season thriller is sure to exhibit Alabama’s strengths while Ole Miss attempts to prove why they belong in the Top 15 class.
