Auburn and North Alabama have set their first-ever meeting on the football field.
UNA announced on Monday that it will travel to Jordan-Hare Stadium on Sept. 9, 2028.
“Aligning a future matchup with an in-state SEC opponent has been a scheduling priority for our football program,” UNA Director of Athletics Dr. Josh Looney said via a program release. “This will be an incredible experience for our University, fans and alumni. Our coaching staff is closely connected to the Auburn program. We appreciate athletic director John Cohen and head coach Hugh Freeze for the invitation to visit Jordan-Hare Stadium.”
Jordan-Hare Stadium is set to be the largest crowd ever for the Lions. UNA previously played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas in 2011 at a then-capacity of 80,000 and last season against Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium in front of 79,560 fans.

North Alabama head coach Brent Dearmon was an analyst at Auburn, serving on Gus Malzahn’s staff in 2013 and ’14. Dearmon’s coaching staff features former Tiger standouts Deshaun Davis and Kerryon Johnson.
“This is an enormous deal for UNA football,” Dearmon said, via the team website. “We’ll take the visitor spot, not only for an SEC game, but for an in-state SEC power. This will fire up our fans and our players. Most of them grew up Auburn fans or dreamed of playing on such a stage.”
North Alabama is the first nonconference opponent announced for Auburn’s 2028 schedule. The SEC has yet to make an announcement regarding whether programs will play 8 or 9 conference games for 2026 and beyond.
UNA is based in Florence, Alabama. The football program plays in the United Athletic Conference at the FCS level.
