It’s halftime in Minneapolis, and we’ve got a good one between Auburn and Virginia. Auburn leads UVA 31-28.
The first half was a tale of runs. Auburn jumped out to a quick lead, thanks to a 9-2 run. Virginia, however, settled in and started making shots. The Cavaliers then went on an 8-0 run.
Virginia’s slow pace and defense hasn’t frustrated Auburn, although the Tigers have to knock down more of the open looks from three point range. With seven minutes left in the first half, Auburn was 1-11 from outside. That simply won’t cut it against UVA. The Tigers later hit two more three pointers before halftime.
While Auburn hasn’t shot too well from downtown, the Tigers have played well in the paint.
Auburn junior Samir Doughty is tied for the team lead in scoring with seven points off the bench. Bryce Brown has scored three points, while Jared Harper has scored two.
Virginia’s Ty Jerome has scored 10 points.
