B1G is back! Wisconsin-Penn State game features level of futility not seen in nearly 50 years

B1G football returned last week, but this week featured our first matchup between ranked B1G programs — No. 19 Penn State at No. 12 Wisconsin.
Excitement was high in Madison, but that had waned significantly as both teams struggled their way to a 0-0 halftime score.
That offensive ineptitude was so bad it hasn’t been seen since 1973. Per the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the first time since LSU-Colorado in 1973 that a season-opening game between 2 ranked schools was scoreless at halftime:
Before today, the only other season-opening game (for both teams) between two ranked schools in which neither team scored in the first half was LSU-Colorado in 1973.

In the third quarter, both programs have scored. Midway through the third, the score is knotted at 7-7. That’s a veritable offensive explosion based on the first 2 quarters of play.
