The future at Florida for QB Feleipe Franks appears up in the air.
Jamie Erdahl of CBS Sports reported in the first quarter of the Auburn-Florida game that Franks said he’s “not sure” about returning to Florida with one year of eligibility remaining. He would decide once he’s recovered and 100 percent.
Franks suffered a dislocated ankle with a fracture in the second half of the Gatorsโ victory over Kentucky on Sept. 14 in Lexington. Franks had surgery last week, and has been seen around the Florida program on a scooter while offering input to QB Kyle Trask and other teammates.
โObviously, itโs a tragic deal, to happen to anybody,” Florida coach Dan Mullen said after the UK game. “You look at somebody at is a great leader on our team, thatโs worked really hard to put himself in this positionโฆ To me, I saw the huge strides he made from last year to this year โ in every aspect of his game. And so itโs always a tragic deal when that happens, for young guys.โ
It’s unclear if Franks would want to resume his football career. The Boston Red Sox drafted Franks in the 31st round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft, with the 947th overall selection.
Immediately after being drafted by the Red Sox, Franks released the following statement:
โIโm flattered that the Red Sox picked me this afternoon. However, Iโm living out my dream being the quarterback of the Florida Gators. Weโre all working extremely hard this offseason and I cannot wait to hit the field this fall.โ
