Over the first three months of 2020, Pilot Mountain, North Carolina defensive tackle Isaac Washington and the Tennessee Volunteers have had quite the on-again-off-again relationship. As of this weekend, it’s on again.
Less than three weeks after he announced a decommitment from UT, Washington has recommitted to the Vols. On Saturday night, the East Surry product tweeted, “blessed to say i am re-committed to UT” tagging defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh, defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley and head coach Jeremy Pruitt before the hashtags #backlikeineverleft and #GBO.
Washington originally committed to Tennessee on Jan. 25, 2020. He decommitted on Feb. 19, citing the departure of former defensive line coach Tracy Rocker, who is now at South Carolina. In the time his recruitment was reopened, Washington picked up an offer from Oklahoma (Feb. 24, 2020).
On the 247Sports Composite, Washington is still rated 3-stars and the No. 31 North Carolina product, but his position and overall rankings have received a boost since his decommitment. He is now ranked the No. 37 defensive tackle (up from No. 40) and No. 662 (up from No. 722) recruit overall nationally in the 2021 class.
With Washington back on board and the addition of Alabama ATH Edwin White, Tennessee’s 2021 recruiting class is up to seven commits and ranked No. 12 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC on the Composite.
