A backup quarterback for Akron received the heave-ho on Saturday in a game against Miami-Ohio for what he apparently said on the sideline that led to 2 straight penalties and an ejection.

The incident came as Akron trailed 27-9 with 4:01 remaining.

The commentators during the game, Michael Reghi and Jerod Cherry, eventually zeroed in on Zips backup quarterback Jeff Undercuffler Jr. It appeared that Undercuffler, a junior from Burlington, N.J, had some choice words to the officials on the field.

In the game, Brett Gabbert threw for 184 yards and a touchdown, Jacquez Warren had a pick-6 early in the fourth quarter and Miami beat Akron 27-9 on Saturday, according to the Associated Press.

Akron fell to 1-8 and 0-5 in the MAC.

Akron outgained Miami 396 to 268 but was undone by 3 turnovers.
