If BCS still existed, SEC would have four teams in Top 5

The Bowl Championship Series has been replaced by the College Football Playoff this season, but what if the computer-based selection system that created five postseason matchups involving ten of the top-ranked teams in the FBS ranks still existed?

According to statistical rankings gurus Ken Massey and Jeff Sagarin, the SEC would continue to dominate a similar BCS-style mathematical formula.

Using a compilation of current computer rankings, coaches rankings and media rankings, here’s how the current Top 10 would look according to ColleyRankings.com:

  1. Mississippi State (0.972)
  2. Ole Miss (0.9465)
  3. Florida State (0.9229)
  4. Alabama (0.8425)
  5. Auburn (0.8304)
  6. Oregon (0.7608)
  7. Note Dame (0.7219)
  8. Georgia (0.7135)
  9. Michigan State (0.6809)
  10. TCU (0.6479)
