Big 12 AD challenges SEC, Big Ten to break away from NCAA amid CSC frustrations

Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard made some pointed comments directed at SEC and Big Ten administrators on Tuesday.

As discussions are ongoing about the future of college sports, reports have surfaced that SEC and Big Ten programs are unhappy with how the College Sports Commission has been enforcing rules since the House settlement passed last year.

Amid rumors that the SEC and Big Ten could breakaway from the other NCAA conferences, Pollard is daring them to do so.

โ€œLet them break away. We should break away from them,” Pollard told reporters this week. “Let them go, but they have to go in all their sports and see how fun it is to play baseball, softball and track when itโ€™s just the 20 of you. Thatโ€™s what I think we should do, but I’m one person & thatโ€™s probably a little more draconian.

“Thatโ€™s how I feel about it. Like, letโ€™s quit talking about it. Quit threatening. Go do it. But if youโ€™re going to do it, you donโ€™t get to just do it in football and then keep all your other sports with us. No, take them all. See how fun it is.โ€

Talks over CSC reform and the future of the College Football Playoff are expected to intensify in the coming months.
