Bijan Robinson had a stellar career at Texas and is now one of the top running backs in the NFL. He understands the pressure that comes with being a high-profile player in Austin, and knows a little about what Arch Manning is going through.
Things have been tough for Manning this season, and the media narrative surrounding the quarterback has completely changed as a result. In the summer, commentators like Paul Finebaum hyped Manning as the eventual Heisman Trophy winner. Now, after a 3-2 start, some are questioning if Manning is one of college football’s biggest-ever flops.
During an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show earlier this week, Robinson offered advice to the Longhorns quarterback.
“Continue to stay consistent,” Robinson said. “Don’t listen to the media because the media can either steer you in the right direction, or it’ll tarnish you for your career.”
Robinson became a household name at Texas, where he played from 2020-22. He rushed for 3,410 yards and 33 touchdowns in 3 seasons, while also adding 805 yards and eight touchdowns.
Manning and the Longhorns are preparing to play in the Red River Rivalry. The Sooners have one of the best defensive lines in college football; they had a school-record 9 sacks in the win over Auburn earlier this year.
After opening the season atop the AP poll, the Longhorns are fighting for their lives not just in the SEC race, but also in the chase for a spot in the College Football Playoff. With a road game at Georgia and a home game against Texas A&M still remaining, the Longhorns are going to have to be nearly perfect to make it to the CFP.
A win against Oklahoma would not only help them get back in contention, but it could also jumpstart Manning’s season.
