DJ Lagway appeared to deal with a leg injury of some sort during Florida’s upset win over then-No. 9 Texas, but Florida coach Billy Napier said there’s no concern with the quarterback’s health.
“Yeah, he finished the game,” Napier told reporters in his Monday press conference. “He’s doing fine. Just some, you know, things that we’ll work our way through this week. But in general, nothing that’s going to prevent him from practicing.”
Up next for Florida is a trip to College Station for a clash with No. 5 Texas A&M. Kyle Field is about a 66-mile drive from Willis High School, where Lagway was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2023. Napier addressed the homecoming factor for Lagway.
“Yeah, I think it can be a positive. You know, I think anything that’s a motivator,” Napier said. “… It’s all going to be about how he prepares and how he executes when presented with the opportunity. So maybe it’ll give him a little edge this week. I think certainly for me it would.
“Anytime we play some of these teams where I’m from, it’s definitely part of the puzzle. So I think it could be a positive.”
Last season, Florida and Texas A&M met in Week 3. Graham Mertz was still UF’s starting quarterback at the time, but Lagway played. It was a rough outing for Lagway, as he was only 6-of-13 passing for 54 yards with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.
Lagway has had an up-and-down 2025, completing 104-of-151 passes for 988 yards, 7 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He’s coming off his best performance of the season, going 21-of-28 against Texas for 298 yards and 2 touchdowns with 1 interception.
